If being persistent, insistent, undaunted, and on the right side of history is a maverick, then Rick Cardenas is the definition of a maverick. Rick showed up and never gave up.
Rick passed away on 3/10/2021, a local legend. He’s one of the people when you talk “disability and Minnesota” his name is just there; his presence strong, and it will remain strong because at the end of the day, Rick stayed true to who he was, and he stayed true to his dedication to making “it” right (and there were lots of “its”) for the disability community.
A community memorial is planned for June 13, 2021, at Harriet Island in Minneapolis. Rick’s celebration will be a celebration of courage, and ramps, and voting, and dignity – and that stern, happy, quiet smile.
… the enduring things that are left are: the dedication to excellence, the dedication to victory, and the dedication to doing with our lives the very best we can to make the world a better place in which to live. – Vince Lombardi
Rest in Power, Rick
