The Minnesota Council on Disability (MCD) extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making our presence at the Kandiyohi County Fair a success:
- Kandiyohi County Fair Board
- Fair staff and volunteers
- City of Willmar
- State and county elected officials
- City planners
- Kandiyohi County Homeland Security Emergency Management staff
- Sheriff’s Department staff
To all the fair visitors who stopped by our booth: thank you for sharing your stories, regardless of how difficult some may have been to share. We are committed to assisting you in improving access and inclusion in Willmar and all of rural Minnesota. We also appreciate your participation in our Public Policy Survey, which helps us understand the policy needs in your community.
We enjoyed meeting you and your families, and sharing fidget spinners, buttons, posters, and “Treat People Like People” tote bags.
Our outreach wouldn’t be possible without our partners:
- Olmsted Implementation Office
- Wilderness Inquiry
- Minnesota Statewide Independent Living Council
- The Arc Minnesota
- MCD council members and staff
Thank you for helping us spread the word about access.
It’s inspiring to see awareness turned into action, such as the Fair Board’s multi-year project to improve accessibility. We are excited to highlight their efforts. The initial phase:
- Lowered entrance grade by 10 feet
- Added paved disability parking
- Relocated the Fair Office to street level
- Extended paved sidewalks
Plans for the fairgrounds include improvements to the West Entrance, more disability parking, and accessible restrooms. These efforts perfectly align with our vision of a barrier-free Minnesota.
Thank you, Kandiyohi County Fair Board, for your commitment to accessibility.
