Minnesota has often led the nation in responding to the concerns of the disability community by reporting on the issues that affect them. Still, stories intended to be factual are often influenced by misconceptions that are ultimately harmful to people with disabilities. Narrated by Kevin Kling, The Real Story explores biases in media coverage of disability issues in Minnesota and nationally and examines the role of grassroots and mainstream media outlets in reporting on stories important to all people with disabilities.

Arc GTC Public Transportation Town Hall Forum November 6, 2013
Getting There will bring key organizations and professionals together to discuss the state of public transportation and what must happen to ensure equal access for the disability community. The program will include a presentation by Transit For Livable Communities about taking action to pass an equitable transit bill. Light refreshments available.

New Federal Rules on Hiring People with Disabilities
Two new rules announced this month by Vice President Joe Biden are designed to improve employment opportunities for veterans and people with disabilities. The first rule, under the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act, requires federal contractors to establish an annual hiring benchmark. The second rule, under Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, establishes a 7% utilization goal for the employment of individuals with disabilities for federal contractors.
