Governor Tim Walz and Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan answered questions for their Budget Engagement Series. Disability advocates must stay vigilant and ensure that our elected officials follow through with their promises. The Minnesota Council on Disability will continue to monitor the budget-making process and advise the Governor and legislators on how to best support and empower the disability community.

Make a Plan for Your Vaccine and Plan to Help Others Who May Need Help
MCD would like to share the following message from Disability Hub MN: State health officials urge Minnesotans to get a COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible. That call to action is especially true for people with disabilities. Support workers, friends and loved ones are encouraged to help the people who may need help scheduling their vaccine, especially for those lacking the best information or internet access.

Rick Cardenas passed away on March 10, 2021. Rick was a strong presence in Minnesota’s disability community. He remained true to himself and strong in his dedication to improving access for everyone.
Interactive Process Amendment Update
SF1939 must be heard in and passed out of the Senate Civil & Data Practices Policy Committee by this Friday, March 19th, 2021 to be considered for final passage into law. The Minnesota Council on Disability urges the disability community to contact Chair Mathews and the members of the committee and demand that they hear SF1939 this week and pass it out of committee.

MCD Encourages Caregivers of Persons with Disabilities to Get Vaccinated
The Minnesota Department of Health encourages caregivers to sign up as soon as possible for vaccine appointments using the Vaccine Connector Tool. There are appointments available now. The connector tool does not have a specific option for primary caregivers, but this post explains how you can sign up.
