Minnesota’s Olmstead Plan Is Available Online
The 2013 Minnesota Olmstead Plan is now posted online. You can find the Olmstead Plan (along with other resources, such as notes from subcabinet meetings and drafts of the plan) on Minnesota’s Olmstead Plan website.
Urge Ratification of the United Nations Disability Treaty
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was signed by the United States in 2009, but it has not yet been ratified by the US Senate. The CRPD would not require any additional law or spending changes. Instead, it would spread many of the rights put forth in the ADA to people around the world. Please call Minnesota’s United States Senators and tell them to keep pressing for ratification of this important Convention.
MSCOD Announces Annual Awards Winners
The Minnesota State Council on Disability held its 40th Anniversary Annual Awards Event on Thursday, October 17, 2013. MSCOD holds this yearly event to observe October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month and to give recognition to those who have done outstanding work impacting the lives of people with disabilities.
The Real Story: Media Coverage of Disability Issues in Minnesota
Minnesota has often led the nation in responding to the concerns of the disability community by reporting on the issues that affect them. Still, stories intended to be factual are often influenced by misconceptions that are ultimately harmful to people with disabilities. Narrated by Kevin Kling, The Real Story explores biases in media coverage of disability issues in Minnesota and nationally and examines the role of grassroots and mainstream media outlets in reporting on stories important to all people with disabilities.
Arc GTC Public Transportation Town Hall Forum November 6, 2013
Getting There will bring key organizations and professionals together to discuss the state of public transportation and what must happen to ensure equal access for the disability community. The program will include a presentation by Transit For Livable Communities about taking action to pass an equitable transit bill. Light refreshments available.
