The 2013 legislative session resulted in the Minnesota State Council on Disability receiving a Legacy grant to fund activities surrounding the 25th anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Legacy fund was created via constitutional amendment in 2008 to, in part, preserve arts and cultural heritage. We are asking for your input as it is important that Minnesotans with disabilities have a say in determining how these funds are spent.

Coverage of the Public Forum on Olmstead Hits the Airways
Wednesday’s public forum on Minnesota’s Olmstead plan was held to give citizens an update on the progress the state is making on bringing “choice” a reality for many people with disabilities. Held at the DS Event Center in St. Paul and hosted by the State Rehabilitation Councils, Metropolitan Centers for Independent Living, and the Minnesota State Council on Disability, the forum was the first chance for the public to see the state’s Olmstead Plan.

MSCOD Welcomes International Visitor
The Minnesota State Council on Disability is proud to introduce Murad Mammadov as he is spending a month with us as part of the U.S. State Department’s Legislative Fellows Program. Murad is from Baku, Azerbaijan and comes to this fellowship with a desire to learn about U.S. laws on children, disability rights, and the role of civil society in advocating for rights of children with disabilities. He has been in our office since early April and will wrap up his visit on May 7.
