Lisa Kidder: My name is Lisa Kidder. I’m a political science major at the University of Minnesota. And I’m totally blind.
I face barriers that have to deal with access to information. If printed material is not available in electronic copy, such as a Word or PDF document, I can feel like it’s a separate and unequal education.
If I don’t have readings in time for class, I might need to talk to the instructor and ask for an extension, or I need to find someone who can read the materials to me and take notes on it. It wears down on my self-esteem once in a while, just because I’ve experienced it so much, and I feel like I’m always the one educating others.
